Why Collar Width Matters

Collar width distributes pressure around your dog’s neck. Wider collars spread force more evenly, making them safer for strong pullers. Narrower collars are lighter and more comfortable for small dogs and puppies.

For waterproof materials like Biothane, width also affects overall strength and handling comfort.

Recommended Collar Width by Dog Weight

Up to 15 kg (small dogs & puppies)
Choose 13 mm or 16 mm width. These collars are lightweight and comfortable without unnecessary bulk.

Up to 25 kg (medium dogs)
16 mm or 19 mm width provides a good balance between comfort and strength.

Up to 35 kg (strong medium dogs)
19 mm width is usually ideal. It offers durability and better control.

Over 35 kg (large & powerful dogs)
25 mm width is recommended for maximum strength and pressure distribution.

Activity Level Matters Too

If your dog:

  • pulls strongly

  • trains regularly

  • hikes or runs

  • swims often

— choose a slightly wider collar for added durability and control.

Material Makes a Difference

Biothane collars keep their strength even in narrow widths because the material does not stretch, absorb water, or weaken like fabric or leather. That makes them ideal for both small and strong dogs.
